Blake pushed the half empty carton of Chinese food out of the way as she went to the computer, adjusting a couple of things for the track list. She was trying to decide which order she wanted her songs to be in, and this song was more frustrating than any of them. She had written it, but not with much attention to detail or anything. The label wanted a particular sound to be on the album based on what was popular with other artists, and instead of continuing a fight with them, Blake had hammered the song out, which was mindless and stupid, in about an hour. She brought her hands to her face tiredly, rubbing the corners of her eyes as she stood up. “ Are you thirsty?” she asked, looking over her shoulder at Thayer. She had to hand it to this kid, no other intern put in these kind of hours. Actually most interns seemed scared to talk to her. One actually cried, and looked like she was about to pass out. Which was weird. And the rest them seemed scared to approach her and Patrick when they were in the same room. You try to lunge at someone one time, and suddenly people think you’re a nutcase.
Blake made her way through the kitchen, making herself and Thayer another cup of tea. She stood on one foot, tracing her right foot against her back left calf as she added a bit of honey to Thayer’s cup. After picking them both up she made her way back to the studio basement. When she came down she could hear one of the tracks playing and scrunched her nose. “ Terrible right? Label wanted it,” she said with a sigh, placing the cup of tea down in front of him before taking her own seat. Blake brought her legs up into the chair, making herself comfortable as she took a sip. She made a face as Thayer was making an expression of his own. “ What?” she questioned defensively. It was high stress time, trying to wrap this album up. Plus, Thayer didn’t know about all of the tracks on the album and was under the impression there wasn’t enough music to push this to the sales racks. Everything was stressful enough as it was, and all she wanted was to push out a final product. This album felt more stressful than any of the others. People were starting to accept that she was growing up, she had won prestigious awards, and now she was trying out a new sound and it seemed like everyone had an idea on what that sound should be.
